The new MKB.V2 brake system for RS Kart

The new MKB.V2 brake system for RS Kart

The MINI category has become increasingly competitive and demanding as a result of the new international regulation applied in the current homologation, and IPKarting met the challenge.

With the aim of further developing the high-quality standards of the Monster EVO 3, the IPKarting technicians manufactured the new MKB.V2 brake system. With their expertise and hard work, the Research and Development team carefully selected cutting-edge technologies both in the design and production phases as well as the optimal materials to create a prime product.

Let us review the details.

CALIPER

The caliper chosen for the new RS MINI kart is directly derived from the front-brake caliper mounted on KZ karts. A 4-piston caliper, with each piston having a diameter of 19 mm, equips the MKB.V2 system, which is also characterised by special grooves to improve heat dissipation.

Minimising wheel lock up and allowing a smoother and more controlled braking were the targets that guided the entire project.

The caliper is diligently machined from a solid block of metal, respecting IPK’s manufacturing tradition, and numerically controlled machines are used in order to minimise the overall weight. Additionally, IPKarting concentrates on every functional and aesthetic detail of the accessory to make the difference.

The company preferred a radial attachment for the assembly, as it provides increased rigidity compared to a traditional attachment and is adopted on the senior karts too.

BRAKE DISC

A floating and self-ventilated brake disc, which is 149 mm in diameter and 11 mm thick, is installed on the MKB.V2 system that equips the RS Monster EVO 3. The IPKarting technicians managed to improve the cooling system as well as the cleaning of the pads after having accurately studied the drilling and milling processes of the brake disc’s surface. This technical innovation results in a consistent friction between the disc and the pad, which is maintained even after repeated use. Furthermore, the milling process significantly reduces the risk of cracks and breakage, as it guarantees greater sturdiness.

MASTER CYLINDER

The master cylinder plays a pivotal role in the braking system, as it transforms the force applied to the pedal into pressure of the pads against the disc, and IPKarting has always focused on this aspect too. Thanks to thorough evaluations, the company decided to install on the MKB.V2 model the same pump that equips the karts in the higher categories. While a 19 mm piston is active inside it, a stroke recovery tank, positioned above the cylinder, is meant to keep the brake pedal stroke consistent with the wear of the pads. Additionally, longevity and uniform performance are ensured by the Xeramic DOT 5.1 brake fluid, which also leads to having ideal viscosity at all operating temperatures. The master cylinder is machined throughout numerically controlled machinery and finalised with an anodising treatment, just as all the other IPK accessories.

BRAKING PADS

Another significant benefit of IPKarting’s brakes has always been the wide range of pads, which consequently provides the advantage of being able to satisfy the needs of all tracks as well as of all driving styles. The MKB.V2 system is supplied with three distinct solutions.

SOFT: green coloured, it is produced with the softest friction material and results in a powerful braking even by applying little pressure on the pedal. This characteristic clearly comes at the expense of the wear period, which is quicker.

MEDIUM: red coloured, as the name suggests, it stands midway between the SOFT and the HARD models. The MEDIUM pad, in fact, equips IPK chassis in their standard version. Thanks to the development work carried out with the drivers of IPKarting’s official racing team, it reached excellent adaptability to any track condition as well as to any driving style.

HARD: blue coloured, the hardness of its friction material guarantees a highly reduced wear. It is recommended for the drivers who are used to applying a lot of pressure on the brake pedal or who prefer a gentle braking.
